Why isnt packed to the rafters on tonight

Family has always been central to the Rafters saga, but change has been a constant too. Births, deaths, tragedy and small-scale domestic triumphs were the currency of its reign as the most popular drama on Australian television — at its peak it drew well over 2 million viewers an episode, a figure unthinkable these days — but it always managed to find the silver lining in every cloud.

Over a condensed six-episode run, the downbeats feel more prominent, perhaps even more real, but the lightness never feels unearned. These are good, decent people, muddling through life, trying not to lose sight of each other as the obstacles erupt between them. Dementia, miscarriages, homelessness, cyber-bullying and the spectre of divorce all loom — and all feel genuine enough — but Scenes From a Marriage this is not.

The youngest Rafter, Ruby Willow Speers , is in some ways the wisest. It would be easy to think of her as unrealistically precocious, except my world is full of kids not too far removed from Ruby. Ruby is unbearable. Greta Thunberg joins the cast. It's great to have the Rafters back but the show really needs to tone down Ruby's character. The first six seasons weren't super 'woke' or 'pc' so why does so much of it need to be now? Literally shoved down your throat every five minutes and it feels out of place.
