To answer your question: Yes, there are multiple different style of mouth guards specially designed for braces that are good. Normal ones don't fit if you are wearing the traditional metal frame braces. However if you have braces, the better advice is don't act tough and "fight". Your teeth are "moving", so they are less stable than usual anyway. Especially if you have had no training and experience fighting with bare hand, a mouth guard is going to be one of the least useful thing for you.
LOL Even for trained fighters, no one will carry a mouth gaurd all the time in purpose to actually defend themselves, 'cause they'd be worrying about knifes, bottles and even guns instead, mouth guard isn't gonna be the useful item to carry for self-defense in any cases.
Carry stuff like self defence paint spray, pepper spray if legel , taser if legel , stun gun if legal , baton, a flashlight or even an alarm or some other practical self defend equipment. And you can easily ask your female friends or whoever else isn't as physically strong to carry one as well, these item will still be as useful in their hands. More numbers you have on your side is always better. Not carrying a mouth guard, come on now Last edited: Jul 6, I like to carry a pair of Winning gloves with me everywhere in case I get in to a fight and have to defend myself without endangering my hands.

An Orthodontic mouth guard will be your best friend. Here is why fighters use them. A mouth guard prevents the bottom row of teeth from clashing to the top row of teeth when you get hit. Not only will it protect your teeth from breaking but it will help protect your lips and gums. Biting on the mouth guard will help stabilize your jaw which reduces the risk of jaw fractures when you get hit. No one likes their teeth getting dislocated -so make sure you bite down!
Custom mouth guards have been proven to reduce the risk of concussion in all sports, check the study here. However, you cannot get just any mouth guard. With braces you must get an orthodontic mouth guard. This mouth guard is made of a higher grade of material than a traditional mouth guard. An orthodontic mouth guard is specifically designed to work with your braces as they sit on top of the brackets and keep both the upper low teeth protected from the line of fire.
The high grade material also protects your lips from being pushed into the brackets via the impacts of kicks and punches. I recommend you ask your dentist for a specifically designed orthodontic mouth guard that fits your braces. If that is out of your price range, I highly recommend the fantastic Shock Doctor which was made together with the American Association Of Orthodontists.
You can get it for a fantastic price right from Amazon here with sizes for both children and adults. There are three different types of headgear.
They each provide unique forms of protection to your braces. Open Face: This headgear offers the most visibility with decent protection. However, the issue when you have braces is it leaves your face entirely wide open. Take a look at the top quality Ringside Headgear for a fantastic price on Amazon right here.
Thus, all dangerous parts of the face must be properly protected, especially the skull and jawbone. The most common type of hat for boxers is the hood. Full-face helmets cover the head, with the back covering the entire skull and protected area in front of the chin. This helmet always has a gap in the front eye and nose barrier. This type helps provide the safest protection for your teeth as it can cover most direct injuries to the jaw and skull.
This device still covers the back of the skull but lacks a chin bar like a full-face type. From there, your teeth will also be safe. Supporting technique in boxing is simple but solid self-defense. It helps boxers withstand blows at any distance and fight back, including hand support and shoulder.
This may seem obvious, but it is the decisive factor for the safety of your teeth. The reason is because the protective devices cannot completely protect against the impact force but only minimize them.
When your teeth are as vulnerable as braces, a punch to the jawbone is dangerous and will result in immediate injury. Hand and shoulder supports will prevent the face and jaw from coming into direct contact with the punching force. Furthermore, practicing defense will help you increase your personal technical abilities and learn how to take advantage of opportunities to counterattack.
With braces, your performance and training will be affected.
