Why bhagavad gita is read

This religious spiritual book is a part of Mahabharata and ascribed by a sage Ved Vyasa. The Bhagavad Gita was originally spoken by Lord Krishna to Pandava prince Arjuna in the battleground when he felt weak while fighting against the Kauravas and his friends, relatives in opposition. At this particular moment, Lord Krishna dictated the Gita Gyan to Arjuna and from the very particular moment, this book has been considered to be a holy book which helps people in knowing more about self, god, soul, liberation, yoga, Dharma and much more.

It helps in clearing self-doubts which most of us face time to time. If you ever faced those then Bhagavad Gita helps you in clearing all those doubts by telling you an exact answer. Even Arjuna was facing these doubts before starting Mahabharata war and thus Lord Krishna dictated all of the Gita to him. This helped him clear all his doubts and after that only he was convinced to fight. Gita helps in knowing what Dharma is. Those who do not know what Dharma means or how it can be followed, then Gita is what you should read.

Gita shows every aspect and steps of Dharma. Even if you have any question about your own Dharma, then also Gita helps in solving that. It tells you a lot of information about different yoga like Karma yoga, Gyan yoga, Sankhya yoga and Buddhi yoga. Yoga plays important role in our lives and Gita shows exactly that, but due to modernization, we almost left yoga behind. So it also helps in learning different types of yoga. If you do not know what your aim is?

If you want to know more about yourself and what you should be doing in this life, Gita helps you with that as well. It tells you, how you should be living your life to make it more meaningful. The knowledge about the soul is very less if we take a route through science. Of course, we have to repent. Krishna gives assurance that He will save us from the effects of all sinful reactions: aham tvam sarva papebhyo mokshayishyami.

Curses or effect of black magic will not affect us if we regularly recite Bhagavad-gita. We can also gain freedom from the threefold miseries of the material existence adhyatmika, adhibhautika and adhidaivika.

By internalizing the principles explained by Sri Krishna in Bhagavad-gita we acquire a friendly disposition to all living beings and develop all good qualities. Our life, in this world, thus becomes successful and at the end of this life, we can attain the supreme destination. Let us make our life glorious.

We request you to read at least one verse of Bhagavad-gita every day. It is also said that Bhagavad-gita should be read and understood with the help of a devotee coming down in the disciplic succession originating from Lord Sri Krishna. Just like the Quran and Bible are known all over the world, Bhagavad Gita is also known and respected in the entire world. Bhagavad Gita is not the science of a particular community — it is the universal science of the soul. It is a science that compels us to embrace divinity and divine qualities.

All other bodies of knowledge are subject to change but this body of knowledge contained in Bhagavad Gita is timeless — eternal. Bhagavad Gita is exactly like a big reservoir of water that explains the essence of all Vedic literature and indeed there is no need to resort to any other literature in order to understand the science of self-realization.

Arjuna in the battlefield got confused about his duty. Like Arjuna, we are all confused about our duty. This world is a battlefield. It requires great humility to ask perfect questions. Arjuna had that humility and thus he surrendered to Lord Krishna — the Absolute Truth, to get his confusion removed.

Similarly we should also surrender to Lord Krishna while seeking His guidance. Bhagavad Gita is meant for those who wish to transcend all confusion.
